THE TEAM NEWS

MARATHA ARABIANS

  • After losing their opening match of the 2019 T10 League against defending champions Northern Warriors, Maratha Arabians have been in sensational form having won five and having one no result in their six matches since then.
  • They edged out the Qalandars on Saturday in the first qualifier thanks to yet more fireworks from Chris Lynn who hit his fourth half century of the tournament and he now has 355 runs in 7 innings as topscorer in the tournament – 119 more runs than his nearest rival who is Deccan Gladiators’ Shane Watson.
  • Local star Shiraz Ahmed is proving to be a key member of the bowling attack with his economical figures and that has only enhanced what is already an excellent unit featuring Malinga, McClenaghan, Bravo and Shanaka.

DECCAN GLADIATORS

  • Deccan Gladiators came through a busy Saturday as they beat both the Qalandars and Bangla Tigers, and they now come up against the Maratha Arabians – the only team they did not meet in the group phase.
  • One of the fundamental differences in recent matches behind their improved form has been the improved bowling displays with Sheldon Cottrell making an impact early in the innings while Fawad Ahmed has also been key and they will be in this final.
  • Ben Cutting was the star man with the bat in the second qualifier smashing 43 from 19 balls when the Gladiators were in serious trouble at 82/7 with ten balls left but he guided them to a matchwinning total of 116/7 and their all-rounders will be key once again.

THE PREDICTION

Maratha Arabians have comfortably been the best team in the tournament so far but they face a Deccan Gladiators side that have plenty of momentum behind them. Both teams have several matchwinners in their ranks but the Arabians have the edge with Chris Lynn in their side. The big-hitting Aussie has been sensational throughout the tournament hitting four fifties so far and if he fires, then the Arabians have to be fancied. The Gladiators will need Shane Watson, Mohammad Shehzad and Kieron Pollard to score heavily but that will not be easy against the Arabians bowling. Ultimately, Maratha have the edge in quality with both bat and ball, and they have to be favoured in what should be an entertaining final.
