THE LOWDOWN

NORTHERN BRAVE

  • Following a washout in their rematch against Auckland Aces, Northern Brave return to action here against Central Stags, almost two weeks prior to their last completed match (a 37-run triumph over the Aces in Mount Maunganui).
  • It remains to be seen if the Brave may show signs of rustiness, particularly with the ball and the field following two consecutive abandoned fixtures and they’ll need to hit their straps early on here.

CENTRAL STAGS

  • For the second time in their last three games, Central Stags found themselves on the wrong end of a thriller against Otago Volts, this time losing by just four wickets as opposed to four runs after their score of 187/5 was chased down with three balls remaining.
  • Will Young and captain Tom Bruce looked to have helped parachute the Stags to a winning total, but despite Jayden Lennox’s four wickets with the ball, his side proved too expensive, Ray Toole in particular being belted for 51 runs off his three overs bowled, which cost them in the end.

THE PREDICTION

Northern Brave will no doubt fancy their chances of accumulating a substantial total with the bat against a Central Stags bowling unit potentially still reeling after failing to defend such a high score vs the Volts. Combine that with the Stags having now lost three matches on the trot and confidence is likely to be low all around their camp. If Northern Brave can replicate that batting performance shown last time out against Auckland Aces regardless of whether they take to the crease first or second, then they should do enough to force victory in this one.
