THE TEAM NEWS

TSHWANE SPARTANS

  • Tshwane Spartans hopes of reaching the knockout phase was dented last time out as the rain ensured no play was possible against bottom side Jozi Stars so they come into this final game needs a win to secure a place.
  • They made some changes last time they played a completed game in the defeat to the Bay Giants as Waqar Salamkheil and Corbyn Bosch both started but they endured difficult performances so there may be further changes to the bowling unit here.
  • Dean Elgar has been struggling with injury so he is a question mark but they will hope he can come back into the side to bolster the batting line-up which has been somewhat fragile aside from his performances earlier in the tournament and AB de Villiers in the second half of the group phase.

CAPE TOWN BLITZ

  • Cape Town Blitz’s chances of reaching the knockout phase are slim now after they contrived throw a matchwinning position away against Nelson Mandel Bay Giants last time out as after sitting 106/2 from 10 overs, they fell 11 runs short of the Bay Giants 173/6.
  • Dale Steyn missed that match and is a question mark to play this game now which would be a significant absence although Wahab Riaz, Magala and Nortje were in excellent form in that game to restrict the Bay Giants to 173 when 200 looked a near certainty.
  • If Steyn does miss out here, they may well contemplate an unchanged team for this game although they may be tempted to name another batsmen in the team given the fact they have so many bowling options in their ranks.

THE PREDICTION

Cape Town Blitz royally messed up their chances of reaching the knockout last time out and their chances are slim now. Tshwane Spartans on the other hand are looking for a win to seal their place in the top three and they will hope that rain does not thwart them once again. They have not been at their best in recent games however, and while they do have matchwinners in their ranks, they lack the all-round quality that the Blitz possess. If Dale Steyn plays, the Blitz have to be favoured to just about edge what should be a tight and entertaining game.
