THE TEAM NEWS

NELSON MANDELA BAY GIANTS

  • After their flying start to MSL 2019, Nelson Mandela Bay Giants have lost their last two matches against Paarl Rocks and Durban Heat so they need to get back to winning ways promptly as the race for the top three spots heats up.
  • The batting showed significant improvement on from the following match as they hit 173/6 batting first with Dunks, Roy and Smuts all looking in exceptional form but their bowlers were ultimately unable to defend it.
  • Beuran Hendricks and Junior Dala have not been at their best in the last couple of days so it would be no surprise if either of them were withdrawn from the bowling unit and assuming he is fit to play, Nandre Burger should come back into the side to boost the bowling attack for this crunch game.

TSHWANE SPARTANS

  • Tshwane Spartans come off their first defeat of this MSL campaign as they fell 15 runs short of Cape Town Blitz’s total of 157/5 on Sunday but they know the margin for error remains slim as Cape Town Blitz are hots on their heels now for a top three place.
  • Despite the setback on Sunday, there is every chance that they name an unchanged side for this game as Wiaan Mulder has been a key inclusion in the side with his part-time bowling proving to be a vital addition to the side if any of the frontline bowlers need overs covering.
  • For once the top order let them down against the Blitz but there were plenty of positives with Pite van Biljon’s 62 form 42 balls giving them a chance, and they will hope the likes of Elgar, De Bruyn and Mulder can regain some form with the bat in this important match.

THE PREDICTION

The race for the play-off places is heating up nicely and this is a vital match between Nelson Mandela Bay Giants and Tshwane Spartans. The hosts have lost their last two games and they need to regain the form that saw them unbeaten in their first five games. Their bowling attack has lost some form and the strong Spartans batting line-up may profit from that. They will not be too disheartened by their first and only setback on Sunday, and while this has all the makings of an extremely tight game, the Spartans just get the nod for their all-round quality and balance.
