THE TEAM NEWS

JOZI STARS

  • Jozi Stars picked up their first points of the MSL this year but only due to the fact that their match against Tshwane Spartans was washed out as they remain rock bottom and have nothing but pride to play for in their final two games.
  • The Stars may take this opportunity to give some playing time to some of their fringe players although their core set of players will be desperate to get a win under their belts as will Shoaib Malik after recently arriving to replace Chris Gayle.
  • In Reeza Hendricks and Temba Bavuma, they have two of the top six highest-scoring batsmen in the tournament yet the surrounding cast have failed to perform, while the same can be said of the bowling unit with the exception of Kagsiso Rabada so they desperately need more players to step up to have any chance of winning.

DURBAN HEAT

  • Durban Heat have two matches remaining in MSL 2019 and both of those are against the struggling Stars so they will be desperate to win both matches which will give them a very good chance of reaching the knockout phase.
  • The Heat are arguably the in-form team in the tournament right now having won their last three matches in a row and chasing down targets of 182, 177 and 197 losing just 10 wickets in total.
  • There remains question marks over their bowling as they have switched their pace bowlers around with Daryn Dupavillon replacing Marco Jansen and they even used the part-time spin of Wihan Lubbe last time, and while they have plenty of options at their disposal to change things around, they will need big performances from Maharaj and Abbott.

THE PREDICTION

Jozi Stars have been well and truly abysmal in this MSL campaign having not won any of their eight games so far, and their only chance of salvaging pride now is in their remaining two games against Durban Heat. The likelihood is that the rain will intervene here and wash this match out, but the Heat will be desperate to get a game in. They are comfortably the better team and their form with the bat especially should see them take advantage of the poor Stars’ bowling attack and get the win if play is at all possible.
