THE TEAM NEWS

CAPE TOWN BLITZ

  • Cape Town Blitz got back to winning ways on Sunday after three defeats in a row to reignite their MSL campaign and they are in contention for a play-off place but will have to win their final two matches to have a chance of qualifying.
  • Their batting is looking as formidable as ever right now and even more so since Daniel Bedingham has come into the side at number three and hit 44 and 53 in his opening two matches as he has already surpassed what Asif Ali (90) scored in his five innings.
  • Dale Steyn continues to be the standout bowler in the entire tournament with his 15 wickets and excellent economy rate, and they will look to him to take some early wickets here along with Wahab Riaz and Sisanda Magala.

NELSON MANDELA BAY GIANTS

  • Nelson Mandela Bay Giants snapped their two-match losing streak last time out in impressive fashion as they chased down Tshwane Spartans’ 188/5 thanks to Ben Dunk’s outstanding unbeaten 99 to pick up the points and register their highest ever individual score.
  • Jason Roy missed that match against the Spartans and his availability remains in some doubt although they will be keen for him to return and come back in at the top of the innings in place of Matthew Breetzke to partner the in-form Dunk.
  • The Bay Giants have three bowlers in the top ten for most wickets taken in MSL 2019 but that masks how poorly they have bowled in recent times with Junior Dala especially proving incredibly expensive being hit for 52, 46, 30, 46 and 51 in his last five matches so they will certainly have to improve their poor economy rate against the Blitz batsmen.

THE PREDICTION

This match has all the makings to be another high-scoring classic between two quality teams whose strength clearly lies in their batting. The difference could very well come down to which team bowls the best and the Blitz have the advantage with Dale Steyn in superb form right now. His supporting cast is strong as Wahab Riaz and Magala are contributing well, unlike the Bay Giants whose standout performer is Imran Tahir but the bowlers around him are struggling at the moment. Both batting line-ups are strong, but the edge goes to the Blitz thanks to their edge in quality within the bowling attack.
