A new year brings a new name and a new opportunity for the Kandy franchise to win their first Lanka Premier League trophy. Having been purchased by the B-Love network earlier this year, B-Love Kandy has emerged ready to take the competition by storm and with the quality at their disposal, it would be no surprise if they ended up winning the group stage for the second year running. The acquisition of Dinesh Chandimal, the third highest run-scorer in the 2022 Lanka Premier League is a shrewd bit of business, as is the acquisition of Pakistan white ball batter Fakhar Zaman alongside fellow countryman Mohammad Hasnain and Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman. That’s not including two of the most notable, dependable local players in the form of Angelo Matthews and captain Wanindu Hasaranga.
COLOMBO STRIKERS
Less than 24 hours after having faced 2022 Lanka Premier League winners Jaffna Kings, home favourites Colombo Strikers are back in action here. This represents a big test for their bowlers which includes a number of young players such as Naseem Shah and Matheesha Pathirana, who could find it difficult to put in a high-performance level with such a short turnaround in games. The batters however, should find it easier with less workload on their shoulders and all eyes will be on the likes of Babar Azam and Angelo Perera to contribute heavily in that department.
