THE TEAM NEWS

SRI LANKA

  • Sri Lanka showed signs of improvement in their second clash against Australia but it was still nowhere near enough to claim the win and they will need to produce more with the bat if they are to avoid a 3-0 sweep in the series.
  • The Sri Lankans were at least in the game for large periods, unlike the first game when they suffered a spectacular collapse, but having only managed to post 124 runs, they need to put more on the board if they are to test the T20 world champions.

AUSTRALIA

  • While they were not as dominant as their first clash against Sri Lanka, Australia were still far too good for the hosts as they recorded a comfortable success to clinch the series with a game to spare.
  • The Aussies stuttered slightly with the bat with no-one going on to make a big score and for Steve Smith, a paltry effort of just five runs only served to pile further pressure on his spot in the side.

THE PREDICTION

Australia have proven to be far too good for Sri Lanka in this series so far and the T20 world champions will have their sights firmly set on a clean sweep. They head into this third and final game in buoyant mood having performed so well, even though there are still improvements to make. Josh Inglis will hope to be given a chance and his inclusion could be a shrewd selection by the Australians. For Sri Lanka, they need to show more with both bat and ball but their batting in will be under particular scrutiny. Even if they do improve, it is unlikely to be enough to see them come out on top here.
