New Zealand’s batters laid waste to Pakistan in the opening T20i, racking up 226/8 after 20 overs. Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell did most of the damage after Finn Allen had got them off to a flying start at the top of the order. The bowlers then managed to bowl Pakistan out for 180, consistently stunting their progression by taking wickets throughout.

At 90/3 after 8.1 overs and 130/4 after 12.4 overs, Pakistan were still in the hunt when it came to chasing a mammoth 227 for victory. However, they proceeded to lose wickets at regular intervals following this and were eventually bowled out with two overs to spare, ultimately losing by 46 runs to leave them 1-0 down in the series going into this next game.
THE PREDICTION
When taking into account how strong New Zealand’s top order looked in the first T20i, it bodes well for them going forward on what is likely to be another graveyard of a track for bowlers at Seddon Park. Expect them to be afforded more joy against Pakistan, who should struggle to stem the flow on runs once again. Back a second consecutive victory for the Black Caps.
