THE TEAM NEWS

AFGHANISTAN

  • Afghanistan got off the mark with a win over Netherlands in their opening ODI clash, doing so by 36 runs but there is still room for improvement as they look to build on that success in this second contest.
  • The Afghans were able to build a solid total thanks to the efforts of Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi with both players making it into the 70s before Rashid Khan led the way with the ball, striking on three occasions.

NETHERLANDS

  • Netherlands were competitive in the opening ODI with Afghanistan but they will need to be better to topple their opponents in this second game having fallen short in their efforts with the bat.
  • The Dutch restricted the Afghans to 222/8 but their failure to break up a solid third-wicket partnership proved to be costly and despite a strong start to their reply led by Scott Edwards’ 68, he had very little in support as they were bowled for 186.

THE PREDICTION

Afghanistan produced a solid display to get the better of the Netherlands in their opening ODI clash of the three-match series and they will be confident of securing another victory here. The Afghans did what was required and while there is room for improvement, especially with the bat, they are capable of getting the job done once again. The Netherlands need to show improvements across the board and ensure that they do not allow the Afghans to build solid partnerships with the bat but while they can be competitive once again, they are likely to fall short in their quest to prevail.
