THE LOWDOWN
SOUTH AFRICA
Coach: Rob Walter
Captain: Temba Bavuma
- South Africa come into their final group stage fixture, safe in the knowledge that their place in the semi-finals is secure despite their loss against India last time out, with Australia their upcoming opponents in the last four.
- The Proteas may look to freshen up their bowling line-up and bring in the likes of Lizaad Williams and Tabraiz Shamsi, which would give them a chance to rest any bowlers who needs a break ahead of the knockout stage.
AFGHANISTAN
Coach: Jonathan Trott
Captain: Hashmatullah Shahidi
- Afghanistan snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in Mumbai on Tuesday after Glenn Maxwell put them to the sword with a special unbeaten double hundred, which saw Australia chase down 292 with three wickets remaining following an unbroken eighth wicket stand of 202.
- Whilst Afghanistan can technically still reach the semi-finals, they would need a monstrous net-run-rate swing to leapfrog Pakistan and New Zealand that almost certainly isn’t going to happen.
THE PREDICTION
South Africa will have taken note at how Afghanistan’s bowlers wilted under the pressure of Maxwell’s boundary and will no doubt try to inflict the same punishment on them here. Afghanistan’s motivation is likely to be low, knowing that they realistically blow their opportunity at history against Australia. South Africa’s depth of batting should prove too strong for them here either way and lead to a Proteas victory, their seventh from nine across the group stage.
BETTING TIP: SOUTH AFRICA TO WIN
