THE TEAM NEWS

PERTH SCORCHERS

  • Perth Scorchers were runners-up in last season’s BBL after losing to Sydney Sixers in the final and will be hoping to go one better in this campaign, although they will be without a number of important players against the Heat.
  • England T20i bowler Tymal Mills has been drafted in as a replacement for Jhye Richardson who is away with Australia Test squad although Mills won’t play in this match as he quarantines, whilst all-rounder and T20 World Cup winner Mitchell Marsh will not feature either, as he is away with Australia A.

BRISBANE HEAT

  • After being comfortably beaten last time out by Sydney Thunder, a marked improvement is required by Brisbane Heat, particularly with the bat if they are to get off the mark in this season’s BBL.
  • Bowler Mark Steketee remains out due to Australia A duty, whilst overseas player Tom Abell also misses this match as he remains with England Lions.

THE PREDICTION

Brisbane Heat can take some positives from their loss against Sydney Thunder, most notably the performance of Ben Duckett at number three. Provided the likes of Chris Lynn and Max Bryant at the top of the order can give him a platform in which to build on here, then the Heat should show a vast improve in this match from a batting perspective. Perth Scorchers are a strong opposition particularly at their own ground, however they come into this clash without some crucial players, including the top wicket-taker of last season’s competition in Richardson. It would be therefore, be no surprise if the Scorchers start this latest edition of the BBL slowly without the likes of Richardson and Marsh, so backing Brisbane Heat to come out on top here looks to be the smart move.
