Alex de Minaur vs Alex Molcan prediction

Alex de Minaur’s form has picked up over the last couple of weeks. It began at the Laver Cup, as he saved a match point and mounted a comeback to defeat Alexander Zverev in the singles. He then carried the momentum forward with a run to the final of the China Open. The 27-year-old defeated Mariano Navone, Quentin Halys, Andrey Rublev and Hubert Hurkacz to set up a match against Novak Djokovic. However, De Minaur was forced to retire due to a groin injury at the start of the second set after losing the first on a tiebreak. Despite this setback, he has not yet ruled himself out of this tournament.

He is scheduled to play Alex Molcan in the second-round. Molcan came from a set down to beat Federico Cina in his opener. He broke on seven separate occasions, winning 4-6 6-1 6-2. 

Molcan actually leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a win in the semi-finals of the Lyon Open four years ago. There are significant concerns over De Minaur’s fitness, and Molcan will look to extend the rallies and exploit any physical limitations the Australian may be dealing with.
