Miomir Kecmanovic booked his place in the second-round of the Shanghai Masters after a straight sets win over Sho Shimabukuro. The Serb was dominant throughout, conceding just one break point on his way to a 6-2 6-4 victory. His best tour-level result of the season was a run to the semi-finals in Acapulco, which included a victory over Alexander Zverev.

He faces Jakub Mensik in round two. The Czech competed at the China Open last week, winning his opening match against Alexander Bublik, before a defeat to Francisco Cerundolo. Mensik has only progressed to one quarter-final since his run to the last four at Roland Garros back in early June, but he is safely positioned inside the top 20 of the world rankings.

He also leads the head-to-head 2-0 against Kecmanovic and is yet to drop a set to him. His superior serving and previous success in this matchup make him the clear favourite.
