Although Chennai Super Kings are out of play-off contention, they aren’t ending the season quietly and in their last game they defeated reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders by two wickets, chasing down 180 with two balls to spare. That win ended a four-match losing streak and underlined their intention not to finish the campaign bottom of the table.

Rajasthan Royals meanwhile, are in the midst of a three-game losing run themselves and have now won just one of their last nine. Their bowling attack looked undercooked last time out vs Punjab Kings, giving up 219 runs with the IPL stoppage likely not benefitting them in terms of match rhythm. With experienced pros like MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin against his former team, don’t expect CSK to slump as they aim to avoid the embarrassment of propping up the table. Backing them to beat Rajasthan looks the smart move.
