The 2023 Cheltenham Festival gets underway with a superb looking card. The first day always produces some incredible drama in what many view as the best day of the meet and TSZ has had a stab at picking out three winners from the opening day’s racing of the greatest show on turf.

13:30 Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle

There is a lot to like about favourite Facile Vega despite seeing his unbeaten record end last time out. That sole defeat at Leopardstown came on the back of a sensational effort to land the Future Champions Novices’ Hurdle at the same track and having landed last year’s Champion Bumper at Cheltenham, it would be no surprise to see Willie Mullins’ horse go in again here. Many bookmakers are offering a variety of free bets across the Festival and with some returning stakes for losers on this race, it could well be a free shot at getting off the mark.

14:10 Sporting Life Arkle Challenge Trophy Novices’ Chase

El Fabiolo has made a strong start to his career, failing to win just one race to date. He has been impressive over hurdles as well as when chasing which sets him up well for a tilt at the Arkle. He was extremely impressive on his latest outing at the Dublin Racing Festival last month as he landed a Grade 1 race and a fourth successive victory is on the cards here.

16:50 Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle (Fred Winter)

Willie Mullins has yet to win this race which comes as a surprise considering his excellent record at Cheltenham but he could have found a winner this time around. Tekao looks a highly promising sort and was third in a Grade 1 last time out at Leopardstown. Has won a hurdle race over 2m which further franks his form and he looks to be the one to beat in this contest.
