Italy team news: Late calls

Andrea Soncin made a relatively late decision to cut his 27-player preliminary squad down to 23 just last week. He decided to leave out Everton's Aurora Galli, as well as Valentina Bergamaschi, Martina Rosucci and Astrid Gilardi.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Giuliani; Di Guglielmo, Salvai, Linari, Bonansea; Caruso, Giugliano, Severini, Boattin; Cantore, Cambiaghi

Belgium vs Italy prediction

Belgium were one of the seven playoff winners for UEFA Women’s EURO 2025. Under the management of Elisabet Gunnarsdottir, the nicknamed ‘Belgian Red Flames’ have improved as a national side over the last decade, ranked 20th in the world now. They reached the quarter-finals of the 2022 tournament a few years’ ago.

Italy qualified for the tournament as Group A1 winners, finishing above the Netherlands, Norway and Finland in their qualifying campaign. They did only manage two victories in their six qualifiers, but still saw off the Dutch at the top. Le Azzurre are improving, ranked 13th in the world, three short of their highest ever ranking.

Belgium have perhaps shown some signs of improvement in the last few years, but Italy remain favourites in this important game with the group consisting of both Spain and Portugal.

Belgium vs Italy tip: Italy to win
