Ralf Rangnick’s Austria missed out on automatic promotion in the final match day of the league phase in the autumn as the Austrians now take on a Serbia side that perennially underperform.

Austria vs Serbia Prediction

This is a really intriguing clash in central Europe with Austria, who showed really encouraging signs at UEFA EURO 2024, needing to get over the line for promotion as they take on a Serbia side that have been underwhelming throughout the last few years.

The Austrians have potentially flattered to deceive with their Round of 16 exit to Turkey last summer before Norway leapfrogged them on the final day of the league phase of this season’s UEFA Nations League with Ralf Rangnick’s side sharing a 1-1 draw with Slovenia after they had beaten the aforementioned Norwegians by five goals to one the previous month.

Serbian football at an international level is in a bit of flux at the moment with many calls from on high for manager Dragan Stojkovic to have left before their group stage exit at UEFA EURO 2024 but, despite the fact they have managed just one victory in nine matches since the beginning of that tournament, Stojkovic remains in charge.

Given that poor run of form and their perennial underachievement despite a strong squad, Austria should win this quarter-final first-leg, especially with their home advantage.
