Arthur Rinderknech vs Carlos Alcaraz prediction

Arthur Rinderknech came from a set down to beat Benjmain Bonzi and make the round-of-16 at a major for the first time in his career. The Frenchman was not broken on serve after the first set as he won 4-6 6-3 6-3 6-2. Rinderknech has broken new ground in recent months, with his first win over a top 5 player against Alexander Zverev at Wimbledon, while the last two majors have seen him achieve the best slam results of his career.

He will now take on world number two Carlos Alcaraz. Alcaraz continued his serene progress in New York as he thrashed Luciano Darderi to make round four. The Spaniard needed just one hour and 44 minutes to beat the Italian 6-2 6-4 6-0 and he has still not dropped a set at this year’s tournament. He committed just 12 unforced errors and won 79% of his points on first serve.

Alcaraz leads the head-to-head 3-0 and 1-0 on outdoor hard court. He beat Rinderknech in four sets as an 18-year-old in the second-round of this major, while he also defeated the Frenchman two months ago at Queen’s Club. Rinderknech may test the Spaniard with his trusty big serve, but Alcaraz has started this major so strongly and will be a big favourite to win in straight sets.
