Who Leads The All-Time Champions League Table?

We’re well and truly in the swing of this year’s Champions League, but we thought we’d take this opportunity to look at the competition as a whole since its inception in 1992. We’ve compiled all the data from each season to see who the most consistent teams have been overall – this data does not include knockout games; it is taken purely from the group stages, and teams need to have played at least 50 matches in order be considered. The following is a list of the top 20 teams in Champions League history:

• Since the inauguration of the Champions League in the 1992-93 season, Real Madrid and Barcelona have won nine titles between them, so it isn’t surprising to see the Spanish giants claim the top two spots on the all-time list.
  
• Spain have the most representatives in the top 20, with five teams on the list. England are next with four, followed by Germany, Italy and France – all with three teams.
  
• Despite three Champions League crowns and finishing as runner-up on a further three occasions, AC Milan are down in 13th place in terms of overall win percentage.
  
• PSG – who have reached the Champions League quarter-finals for four successive years now – are one of the most consistent sides in European football. The French champions sit in fourth place in the overall standings, despite the fact they have never reached a final and have only once appeared in the semi-finals.
  
• Leicester City are not included on the list, having not played enough games. However, their win ratio of 75% would put them in first place, and they are also yet to concede a goal in the competition.
