THE TEAM NEWS

GLOUCESTERSHIRE

Coach: Richard Dawson

Captain: Michael Klinger

  • Gloucestershire had a successful 2018 Blast campaign, qualifying from a tough Southern group in fourth place, before being beaten by overall champions Worcestershire Rapids at Blackfinch New Road and they continue to do well in the shorter formats of the game.
  • Long serving T20 captain Michael Klinger enters his 7th year with the South West county and he has been joined once again by fellow countryman Andrew Tye, the fast bowler set to enjoy a third successive season at Gloucestershire
  • While they will likely make changes from the county match against Leicestershire which only finished on Thursday evening, Gloucestershire will take big confidence from their win where they won with three balls remaining, and they will look to carry that momentum into this opening T20 Blast game.

GLAMORGAN

Coach: Matthew Maynard

Captain: Colin Ingram

  • Glamorgan lost their opening T20 Blast match on Thursday night at home to Somerset who chased down their total of 180/5 with relative ease losing just two wickets and with two overs to spare as their bowlers were hit for over ten runs per over.
  • Pakistan international Fakhar Zaman missed the opening match against Somerset as the club await news on his visa and it remains unlikely that he will be able to participate in this match so they remain without both overseas stars as Mitch Marsh is also unavailable still.
  • The batting looked relatively strong with experienced skipper Colin Ingram hitting a quickfire 50 from just 28 balls, while David Lloyd also hit a half century, but the bowling was particularly poor and they have little time to reverse that poor form as they make the relatively short trip to Cheltenham for this game.

THE PREDICTION

Gloucestershire have been one of the most underrated and unfashionable teams in recent seasons but they are more than capable in this format of the game. They do not possess the star power of many teams in the competition, but they are a match for anybody on their day as they proved last year. Glamorgan were disappointing in the loss on Thursday at the hands of Somerset and they will have to lift themselves quickly here. With both their overseas stars missing once again, Gloucestershire have to be favoured to edge what could be a relatively low-scoring affair.
