US Open 2017 - Rafael Nadal vs Juan Martin del Potro Preview

Scheduled for 11pm UK time this evening, the second men’s singles semi-final sees two former US Open champions in Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin del Potro compete for a place in Sunday's final.

Nadal enjoys an 8-5 head-to-head lead, but all five of Del Potro’s wins against the Spaniard have come on hard courts, while Nadal (54-9) has a considerably better record in 2017 than the Argentine, who is running at 23-12.

Nadal has a 3% advantage on service points won, and 4% on return, so he is likely to put considerable pressure on Del Potro’s serve throughout the match, and Nadal’s excellent 47% break deficit recovery percentage should enable him to be better than average when a break down in sets.
