THE TEAM NEWS

NORTHERN IRELAND

  • Northern Ireland finally won a close contest in the 2019 Vitality Netball World Cup as they sealed their place in the 9-10 match with a narrow victory over Barbados in their final group game.
  • In what was just their second win of the tournament, Northern Ireland were victors thanks to a strong third-quarter as they held on to defeat Barbados 46-43 but they will still be disappointed by how their tournament has panned out.
  • If losses to Zimbabwe and Malawi by a combined six points had gone the other way, Northern Ireland would have been looking at a very successful tournament but must now try and settle for ninth spot with Emma Magee set for another big role in this contest.

TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

  • Trinidad and Tobago have put in some valiant displays at the World Cup but have only managed to collect one win so far but were able to secure a draw in their final game against Scotland.
  • Their win over Fiji in their Group C clash meant Trinidad and Tobago avoided falling into Group E and whilst they did not manage to pick up any wins in the stage two preliminaries, the draw with Scotland will give them encouragement ahead of their clash with Northern Ireland.
  • Samantha Wallace has enjoyed a successful tournament so far with 174 goals and another strong showing in this final game for Trinidad and Tobago may see her end the competition in the top five goal-scorers.

THE PREDICTION

Northern Ireland could have been looking at a game in the 5-8 semi-finals if a couple of close games had gone their way but instead they will have to face Trinidad and Tobago in the 9-10 match. Both nations are quite well-matched and this could be another close contest with Northern Ireland desperate to ensure they can edge this one. Trinidad and Tobago will not make it easy for them and Samantha Wallace will need to be closely watched but Northern Ireland should just about have enough to claim the win.
