THE TEAM NEWS

MALAWI

  • Malawi secured third place in Group F of the stage two preliminaries at the 2019 Vitality Netball World Cup as they proved too good for Zimbabwe as they responded well to their hammering against Australia.
  • Malawi were solid throughout the game and managed to get the upper hand in each quarter before sealing the 59-43 victory with Joyce Mvula continuing her impressive tournament to lead her country to the win.
  • Mvula scored 41 goals from 43 attempts (95%) as she took her tally for the competition to 155 goals and will be key alongside Jane Chimaliro and Takondwa Lwazi if they are to overcome Uganda.

UGANDA

  • Uganda moved a step closer to their best ever finish at a World Cup as they progressed to the 5-8 semi-finals with a fourth-placed finish in Group G but must bounce back from defeat against Jamaica.
  • The Ugandans’ highest finish at a World Cup is 8th from the two tournaments they have competed in and are guaranteed to at least match that this time around but have work to do following the 57-39 loss to the Jamaicans.
  • Peace Proscovia has enjoyed a strong showing at this tournament and was impressive once again as she scored 21 goals against Jamaica with a 100% success rate from her attempts as she moved to 119 goals for the competition.

THE PREDICTION

Malawi and Uganda will both have their eyes on finishing as high as possible in the World Cup with anything less than a place in the 5-6 match potentially deemed as a failure for either nation. Both nations are quite well-matched but it’s the Malawians who will fancy their chances with them gaining an extra win in the stage two preliminaries and they have achieved some more eye-catching results throughout.
