THE TEAM NEWS

JAMAICA

  • Jamaica have suffered an underwhelming tournament so far at the World Cup but can try to rectify that somewhat by beating Zimbabwe in their 5-8 semi-final to try and achieve a fifth-place finish.
  • Narrow defeats against South Africa and England have prevented the Jamaicans from making the top 4 semi-finals but they come into this clash with Zimbabwe on the back of a solid win over Uganda.
  • Jhaniele Fowler has been the star of the show for Jamaica and was again key in the victory against Uganda as she scored 38 goals from 39 attempts (97%) to take her number of goals in the tournament to a superb total of 235.

ZIMBABWE

  • Zimbabwe have been one of the surprise packages of the 2019 Vitality Netball World Cup and will hope that they can continue to overachieve as they head into the 5-8 semi-final against Jamaica.
  • The Zimbabweans were not expected to be challenging at this stage of the tournament and even an eighth-place finish would be a good achievement for them but they will have higher ambitions now they have made it this far.
  • Zimbabwe will have to bounce back from defeat in their last game against Malawi and will be reliant on Joice Takaidza who notched another 22 goals in that game to take her tally for the tournament to 147.

THE PREDICTION

These two teams will head into this game with contrasting feelings with Jamaica feeling they have underachieved in the competition whilst Zimbabwe have overachieved. Jamaica will now be solely focused on finishing in fifth to leave them moderately happy with their performance. Zimbabwe on the other hand have done well to make it to this stage but this might be a game too far for them and they are likely to come unstuck against the Jamaicans.
