THE TEAM NEWS

ENGLAND

  • England moved a step closer to making the final in the World Cup that they are hosting as they maintained their perfect record after defeating South Africa in their final game to set up a semi-final with New Zealand.
  • England have won all six of their games so far with wins over Jamaica and South Africa the highlights so far with the win over the latter ensuring they topped Group G in the stage two preliminaries.
  • Despite some tough contests, England have progressed to the semi-final in great fashion and will continue their record of having never finished a World Cup below fourth spot but will have their eyes on the title with Joanne Harten pivotal to the hosts’ chances.

NEW ZEALAND

  • New Zealand progressed to the semi-final of the 2019 Vitality Netball World Cup despite defeat in their last game against Australia as they were only narrowly edged out by the reigning world champions.
  • That was New Zealand’s first loss of the tournament so far but they will take heart from pushing Australia so close
  • New Zealand have scored 436 goals in the competition so far with the goals being spread around fairly evenly between their four goal-scorers with Maria Folau scoring the most with 162 whilst Bailey Mes has scored the fewest but has still chipped in with 66.

THE PREDICTION

In a repeat of the 2015 World Cup semi-final, hosts England will be out for revenge against New Zealand as they bid to make the final for the first time. England have previously finished second back in 1975 but that was by virtue of a round robin as the host nation attempt to at least match that best-ever finish with a win here. New Zealand will pose a huge threat but England come into this game with the greater form and have great belief in their ability which should see them progress.
