STATS & FACTS
Both teams were promoted from the EFL Championship last season, with Huddersfield making their home debut in the Premier League. The same can also be said for David Wagner who makes his managerial bow at this level.

This will be the third time in which Rafa Benitez and David Wagner have faced off, with the two trading away wins last season. Huddersfield surprised many early in the season with a 2-1 win at St James Park, while Newcastle got their revenge in March when a 3-1 win helped their automatic promotion push and subsequently dented Huddersfield’s.

Dwight Gayle scored in both those matches, as he picked up a goal apiece from the two encounters.

Five of the side that beat Huddersfield back in March also started Newcastle's opening weekend Premier League defeat to Tottenham: Ciaran Clark, Christian Atsu, Matt Ritchie, Paul Dummett and Jonjo Shelvey.

It was a day to forget for those last two players as Dummett went off early with an injury and Shelvey was sent off for stamping on Dele Alli. He now subsequently will miss this fixture.

The last league meeting prior to last season was back in 1984, when the two sides played out a 2-2 draw in what was then known as Division Two (second tier).

Huddersfield suffered a record defeat at the hands of Newcastle back in 1950 when they lost 6-0 away from home.
