THE TEAM NEWS
CHENNAI SUPER KINGS
Coach: Stephen Fleming
Captain: MS Dhoni
- Chennai Super Kings were hoping to avoid having to play this second Qualifier match but defeat to Mumbai Indians on Monday means that they have to now beat Delhi Capitals in order to have a rematch with Mumbai on Sunday in the final.
- Despite home advantage against Mumbai and playing on the slow pitch that favours the spinners, they struggled in the powerplay batting first and the loss of Du Plessis, Watson and Raina at the end of the sixth over for just 32 ultimately cost them so they will look to score at a faster rate here.
- Murali Vijay came in for the injured Kedar Jadhav in that match and he should keep his place with the Super Kings likely to name an unchanged team for this crunch match against the Capitals as they look to repeat their recent 80-run win over them.
DELHI CAPITALS
Coach: Ricky Ponting
Captain: Shreyas Iyer
- Delhi Capitals came through a tough Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday making it five wins from their last six matches with their only defeat coming against the Super Kings last week.
- The Capitals have the advantage of having played that game in Visakhapatnam so they will be accustomed to conditions there but they will have to play better against Chennai here if they are to reach their first ever final in the IPL.
- Colin Munro came in for Colin Ingram last time out but he looked scratchy at the crease while Trent Boult struggled with the ball too so there is a chance that Chris Morris could come into the side and they are the only likely changes to the team.
THE PREDICTION
Chennai Super Kings have dominated proceedings against Delhi Capitals in their head-to-head matches with 14 of the 19 going in their favour. The Capitals are much-improved this season but they will have to raise their game once again if they are to beat MS Dhoni and his men. The Super Kings hammered them by 80 runs last week albeit in Chennai and while conditions will be different here, one just feels like Dhoni’s men have the edge in all facets over the Capitals.
