- Fernando Verdasco is having something of a reinvigoration at 35 years old and has been impressive in May in both Madrid and Rome where he lost out to Stefanos Tsitsipas and Rafael Nadal respectively.
- The Spaniard has never made it past the round of 16 but he has reached that stage of the competition in two consecutive appearances at Roland-Garros.
- Verdasco lost out to Novak Djokovic in last year’s French Open and twice to Kei Nishikori in the two years previous which suggests it will take a higher-calibre opponent to dismiss him.
DAN EVANS
- Dan Evans will face Fernando Verdasco for the first time on Tuesday in the first round of Roland-Garros after crashing out of the first round at the Italian Open.
- Evans has made just two appearances at the French Open, 2014 and 2017, and has not been since his one year ban for cocaine use as he tries to work his way back up to the top 50.
- The 29-year-old Brit is 6-5 for 2019 and has reached two finals this year, an ATP 250 and a Challenger, losing both.

Dan Evans is always a tricky customer to predict as he so often makes up in determination what he may lack in ability, but he faces a tough ask here. Fernando Verdasco looks as comfortable on clay as plenty of players ten years his junior, and he is enjoying a late spring of form in the twilight of his career. The Spaniard should prevail here with little fuss.
