THE TEAM NEWS

COLORADO ROCKIES

  • The Rockies are coming off an 8-11 loss against the San Francisco Giants the last time out and are currently riding a four-game losing streak where they have allowed eight or more runs in three of those games. They have also gone 2-8 in their last ten matches, and recently suffered a four-game sweep against San Francisco.
  • Charlie Blackmon currently leads the Rockies with a .318 average, while Trevor Story (22 HR) and Nolan Arenado (71 RBI) have been supplying steady offense thus far in 2019. When it comes to injuries, OF David Dahl has been listed as day-to-day while P Tyler Anderson, P Seunghwan Oh and 2B Brendan Rodgers are all out for the season.
  • Kyle Freeland will get the starting nod for the Rockies in this one. The 26-year-old left-hander hasn’t had a good season and currently owns a 7.39 ERA with a 2-6 mark and a 1.61 WHIP, all numbers that sit quite above his career norm. He also registers 52 SO in 63.1 innings across 13 starts. He also has a 10.31 ERA in his last seven starts.

NEW YORK YANKEES

  • The Yankees are coming off a double-header on Thursday where they took on the Tampa Bay Rays, winning both games 6-2 and 5-1, respectively. Aaron Boone’s men have gone 4-1 over their last five games and are currently riding a three-game winning streak as well. They have gone 5-2 since the All-Star Break and 6-4 in their last ten contests.
  • When it comes to injuries for the Yankees, there are few teams more depleted than them across the Big Leagues. 1B Greg Bird, SS Troy Tulowitzki, OF Cameron Maybin, OF Giancarlo Stanton, P Dellin Betances and P Luis Severino are all out. SS Didi Gregorius is coming off a 2-for-4 game the last time out and is currently hitting for .254, but OF Aaron Judge has looked impressive since coming off the IL, as his average has risen from .288 to .304 over his last 19 games.
  • J.A. Happ will get the start for the Yankees and the veteran left-hander has looked solid for the Bronx Bombers thus far. Through 95.0 innings and 18 appearances (all starts), Happ owns a 4.93 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP and a 7-5 record.

THE PREDICTION

The Rockies have been stumbling of late and can’t get anything going for themselves, especially when it comes to pitching. The Yankees have been struggling with consistency, but the home-field advantage should be enough to give them the win in what promises to be a tightly-contested affair.
