DAVE CHISNALL
- Dave Chisnall has had a successful year on tour so far in 2019 with three ranking titles to his name and he ended his 18-month wait for a tournament victory in February whilst he also won on the European Tour when he claimed the Danish Open title in June.
- He has a good record at getting through the first round at the Matchplay having not lost at the first hurdle since 2012, and he has gone on to reach the quarter-finals in five of the last six years at the Winter Gardens.
- Chizzy missed out on selection for the 2019 Premier League having slipped down the rankings and will be aiming for a good showing in the remaining major tournaments of 2019 as he aims to get back into the Premier League in 2020.
MAX HOPP
- Germany’s number-one ranked player Max Hopp is returning to Blackpool for the second consecutive year having made his World Matchplay debut in 2018 when he lost 10-7 to Ian White in round one.
- Hopp came close to making a major TV ranking final last October but missed match darts to defeat eventual champion James Wade in the semi-finals of the European Championship.
- Chisnall and Hopp’s only two previous TV meetings came last Autumn with Chisnall winning at both the World Grand Prix and World Series Finals.
THE PREDICTION
Dave Chisnall has put aside his disappointment at missing out on selection for the Premier League with some good results on tour and he comes into the Matchplay having won the Danish Open only a month ago. Max Hopp is a dangerous first-round opponent for any player but Chizzy is in good enough form to suggest he can carry on his good record at getting past the first hurdle at Winter Gardens and he is tipped to prevail in this opening round clash.
