THE TEAM NEWS

MELBOURNE

  • Melbourne Demons failed to build on their win over Carlton Blues as they fell to defeat away at Western Bulldogs in a result that all-but confirms that the Demons will not be featuring in the finals.
  • They have struggled all year and whilst they still have a mathematical chance of making the top 8, it is extremely unlikely at this stage and they would need to win their remaining fixtures to give themselves any chance.
  • After some early concerns over a handful of players carrying knocks, nobody has been omitted from the Melbourne team so far but Corey Wagner, Josh Wagner, Oskar Baker and Tim Smith are all pushing for a spot in the side.

WEST COAST EAGLES

  • West Coast Eagles’ three-match winning streak was halted by Collingwood Magpies in a brilliant encounter last week but they will fancy their chances of getting back to winning ways here as they look to consolidate their top 4 spot.
  • Jamie Cripps is out with an abductor injury for the Eagles whilst Nic Naitanui is also sidelined because of an ankle injury with Jake Waterman, Will Schofield and Jack Petruccelle amongst those vying to replace the injured duo.
  • Francis Watson, Bailey Williams and Matthew Allen are also named amongst an extended interchange bench with all three hoping for a call-up in what would be their debut for the Eagles.

THE PREDICTION

West Coast Eagles lost a one-point thriller with rivals Collingwood Magpies last week but their spot in the finals is not at risk and they can move another step closer to securing that place with a win here. They travel to Melbourne to face the Demons who have endured a tough season but will want to try and end the year with some positives. That will be difficult against the Eagles who had looked ominously good in their three wins prior to last week’s loss and they should return to winning ways in this one.
