THE TEAM NEWS

GEELONG CATS

  • Geelong Cats got back to winning ways following their shock loss against Western Bulldogs as they proved too strong for St Kilda Saints to maintain their eight-point lead at the top of the AFL ladder.
  • The Cats will make at least one change to their side from last week’s win after Brandon Parfitt was ruled out with a back injury but any other changes are likely to be tactical with no other injuries reported from the St Kilda game.
  • Scott Selwood and Jake Kolodjashnij are among those could who replace Parfitt and have been named on an extended interchange bench along with James Parsons, Sam Simpson and Zac Smith.

HAWTHORN

  • Hawthorn Hawks made it back-to-back wins with a win over Fremantle Dockers which came on the back of their superb win over Collingwood Magpies as they continue to push for an unlikely spot in the finals.
  • The Hawks are now just eight points behind the top 8 but face a huge task to close that gap here in what could be a pivotal weekend and they could hand a debut to Darren Minchington.
  • Jack Gunston returns to the side after he was given last week off following some soreness to his leg and Jon Celgar could also return after he was named on an extended bench along with James Cousins who has performed well in the VFL of late.

THE PREDICTION

Geelong returned to winning ways last week as they consolidated their spot at the top of the ladder and will have to be on their guard this week as they host a Hawthorn side that need to win to stay in finals contention. They look unlikely to finish in the top 8 and any hopes they do have probably hinge on them gaining a positive result from this game. Geelong will not make it easy though and they are top for a reason with the home side able to claim the win in this one.
