THE TEAM NEWS

CARLTON

  • Carlton’s recent upturn in form continued as they collected their fifth win from their last five matches with a hard-fought victory over Sydney Swans in their encounter last week and will attempt to make it back-to-back wins as they host Gold Coast Suns.
  • Jacob Weitering has been cleared to return from a broken nose but that will be countered by the loss of fellow defender Hugh Goddard who will be missing after suffering a fractured cheekbone.
  • That is the only change to last week’s side with Carlton resisting the temptation to bring in youngster Tom De Koning following an impressive outing for the Northern Blues last weekend.

GOLD COAST SUNS

  • Gold Coast Suns lost their 12th consecutive game as they were hammered by Adelaide Crows last weekend and now sit alone at the foot of the ladder following Carlton’s victory last weekend.
  • The Suns have made four changes to their side from their last contest with two by choice and two enforced with Josh Corbett and Brad Scheer omitted from the side whilst Anthony Miles is suspended and Lachie Weller is ruled out with illness.
  • Jez McLennan must wait at least one more week to make his debut after the 23rd draft pick was overlooked with Corey Ellis earning a chance after some strong performances in the NEAFL whilst Peter Wright, Chris Burgess and Jacob Dawson are also selected.

THE PREDICTION

Carlton have turned things around recently and can earn back-to-back wins for the first time this season if they can defeat crisis club Gold Coast Suns. With 12 losses in a row, the Suns sit at the foot of the AFL ladder but that elusive win does not look close for them. They were hammered by Adelaide last week and another defeat is likely here with Carlton able to open up more daylight between themselves and the Suns.
