THE TEAM NEWS

BRISBANE LIONS

  • Brisbane Lions made it four wins in a row as they secured another comfortable victory over Port Adelaide Power and moved a step closer to securing their spot in the finals by moving up to third on the ladder at the end of Round 17.
  • The Lions will be sweating on the fitness of Hugh McCluggage and Eric Hipwood with the pair set to undergo late fitness tests on their respective hamstring and knee injuries but both have been named in the initial team.
  • They are joined by veteran Luke Hodge who comes back into the side with Ryan Lester, Josh Walker and Ben Keays all dropping out of the team and into the list of emergencies as the Lions begin to head towards a fully-fit squad.

NORTH MELBOURNE

  • North Melbourne’s chances of making the finals received a huge blow when they lost to Essendon Bombers in their last game, a result which left the Kangaroos eight points behind in the race for the top 8.
  • Shaun Higgins and Mason Wood look set to return to the Roos line-up following injuries and will be joined by Sam Durdin with Luke McDonald out for the year with a fracture near his ankle whilst Curtis Taylor and Paul Ahern also make way.
  • North Melbourne will also be without tagger Ben Jacobs for the rest of the season as it was decided he would sit out to try and overcome the effects of a whiplash-type injury suffered last year.

THE PREDICTION

Brisbane Lions have hit form at the right time and look like being one of the teams to beat as the business end of the season approaches. They host an inconsistent North Melbourne outfit here who are desperate for a win to stay in touch with those teams above them in the race for the top 8 but the Lions will make it difficult for them and with them boasting a very strong squad that is almost back to full-fitness, they can earn another victory to make it five in a row.
