THE TEAM NEWS

ADELAIDE CROWS

  • Adelaide Crows snapped their two-game losing streak as they were comfortable winners over Gold Coast Suns in their last outing, running out 95-point winners to ensure they retained a four-point gap to those teams outside of the top 8.
  • The Crows could be boosted by the return of key man Tom Lynch after the forward missed the last five games with a calf tendon injury and whilst he is still not guaranteed to play, he came through training on Wednesday.
  • Adelaide have some concerns in defence with Luke Brown, Alex Keath and Brodie Smith all far from certain of facing Essendon for a variety of reasons but coach Don Pyke expects all three to feature.

ESSENDON

  • Essendon made it five wins from their last six games as the in-form side claimed a narrow victory against North Melbourne to give their hopes of making the finals another big boost.
  • The Bombers have suffered a huge blow on the injury front with Michael Hurley potentially ruled out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury but they will hope he can recover to at least make the finals.
  • With Hurley out, the availability of Dyson Heppell and Patrick Ambrose becomes pivotal with Heppell looking likely to return to the midfield after a foot injury sidelined him for the past two weeks whilst Ambrose battles a quad problem.

THE PREDICTION

Essendon are in great form at the moment and made it five wins from six with their victory over North Melbourne last time out but now face a tricky test against Adelaide. The Crows got back to winning ways last week with a huge win over struggling Gold Coast Suns but they too know that this contest will prove more problematic. Injury news come the start of the game is likely to be vital but whilst the Crows are favourites, the Bombers can edge this important contest.
