Rodolfo Vieira: “The Black Belt Hunter” looks to claim another submission victory
A legendary name within the Brazilian jiu-jitsu community, Rodolfo Vieira (10-3) is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished heavyweight practitioners the sport has ever seen. The Brazilian’s legendary run of grappling form hasn’t quite translated to the UFC, but “The Black Belt Hunter” still boasts a respectable 5-3 run at middleweight, with all of his victories coming by way of submission. The three time Performance of the Night winner was last seen in action at UFC Fight Night: Cannonier vs. Rodrigues, dropping a competitive decision to Andre Petroski.
Tresean Gore: The TUF standout aiming to rebound
It’s safe to say that few fighters embody their nickname quite as well as Tresean Gore (5-3). The man known as “Mr. Vicious” tends to obliterate his opponents in comically violent fashion or get utterly poleaxed himself in the process. While the TUF 29 standout can lay claim to two of the nastiest guillotine stoppages in recent memory, the American has proven more than willing to go out on his shield in pursuit of the finish; a state of affairs that has culminated in nasty KO losses to Cody Brundage and Marco Tulio.
Rodolfo Vieira vs Tresean Gore prediction
It speaks volumes to The Ultimate Fighter’s waning quality that Gore remains one of the show’s more exciting prospects in recent years. While the American undoubtedly has power, his last KO was an exhibition stoppage over Gilbert Urbina in 2021, a statistic that gets even more worrying considering that his next opponent has never been knocked out in thirteen professional fights.
At 35, Vieira is no spring chicken but he should have more than enough left in the tank to get the job done here. Both of his opponent’s UFC victories have come by submission against mediocre grapplers in Josh Fremd and Antonio Trocoli, a result that seems unlikely to repeat itself against one of the UFC’s most decorated BJJ practitioners.
Gore is tough, but he’s decidedly not Anthony Hernandez; the only man who can lay claim to a finish over “The Black Belt Hunter.” Throw in the fact that he took an inhuman amount of damage against Marco Tulio and things do not look good for “Mr Vicious”.
In short, Vieira should keep his 100% finish rate intact here. He might have to endure a few hairy moments, but the Brazilian strangles Gore into submission before the final bell.
