Alexis Miranda: Can "Mantis" produce a seismic upset?
Alexis Miranda (9-2) touches down in the Apex after fighting the majority of his career on the Mexican regional circuit. “Mantis” has five finishes to his name and has never been finished, with four decision victories proving that he’s capable of earning the win even when he’s unable to get his opponents out of there with a stoppage. However, the Mexican’s strength of schedule leaves a lot to be desired; Miranda has only fought opponents with winning records on three occasions and he actually lost one of those fights.
Ronald Humphrey: The super prospect looking to make a statement
Undefeated as an amateur and a professional, Ronald Humphries (4-0) looks to maintain his perfect record and 100% finishing rate en route to securing a UFC contract. An athletic powerhouse, Humphrey’s best attribute is his wrestling; the American rag dolls his opponents with well timed trips and shots before smashing them with spiteful GNP. At 25, “The Career Ender” looks to have considerable room to grow and evolve; a daunting prospect considering how impressive he’s looked in his career to date. He’s coming off a win against another undefeated prospect in Liam Hamill, dispatching him via first round TKO in March.

It’s not difficult to see why Humphrey is a prohibitive favorite here.
Miranda simply hasn’t produced a result in his career that makes me believe that he’s capable of scoring the upset here. Fighting journeymen and inexperienced competition on the regional circuit is one thing, but he hasn’t even been blowing through them; almost half of his victories have come by way of decision.
By contrast, Humphrey looks like the real deal. He’s had less than half the amount of fights that Miranda has had, but he’s arguably got the more impressive resume. The American has completely dominated every opponent he’s fought to date and nobody has been able to even make it to a third round with him. His blend of outrageous athleticism, smothering grappling, and relentless pressure looks like a daunting prospect for a fighter who has yet to beat a quality opponent.
With all due respect, I don’t think this is going to be particularly competitive. Humphrey is going to take “Mantis” down in short order and bludgeon him with GNP to earn the finish.
