Milos Janicic: "The Cobra" aims to maintain his 100% finishing rate

A prolific finisher who has also happens to have multiple bare knuckle boxing bouts to his name, Milos Janicic (19-3) gets the UFC call after a vicious stoppage on Dirty Boxing 6 in April. Fighting out of Montenegro, “The Cobra” is not a fan of the judges’ scorecards, boasting a 100% stoppage rate split almost evenly between KOs and submissions. He’s proven extremely difficult to finish as well; the 29 year old has only ever been stopped once and that loss came in the infancy of his career. While his strength of schedule is nothing remarkable, he’s beaten some solid regional level fighters on the way to the UFC.

Noah Gugnon: Can "Guns" arrive with a bang in his UFC debut?

Fighting out of Bulgarian Top Team in Sofia, Noah Gugnon (9-2) earned himself a UFC contract with three consecutive first round TKOs in French promotion, Ares FC. “Guns” is an all-action finisher, marching forward and throwing the kitchen sink at his opponents in pursuit of the stoppage, a style that has seem him earn stoppages in all nine of his professional victories. He was stopped by Mark Ewen in Bellator during the early stages of his career, but he’s been on absolute tear since, with his first and only stoppage defeat to date seemingly lighting a fire under the 25 year old Frenchman.

Milos Janicic vs Noah Gugnon prediction

While both men are entirely unproven at UFC level, this is actually a really solid fight between two high level debutants with both men boasting impressive resumes from solid regional promotions.

Janicic looks like a legitimately promising European prospect. “The Cobra” is extremely well-rounded, throwing tight boxing combinations and solid kicks on the feet, with a propensity for snatching up opportunistic submissions after generating scrambles. He’s not going to be out of his depth anywhere this fight takes place, and as a Montenegrin, he’s going to have the crowd on his side in Belgrade.

On the other side of the cage, Gugnon is another European name to watch, if not to quite the same degree as his opponent. While “Guns” has less than half the experience of Janicic, the Frenchman has excellent range kickboxing and couples that with a superb striking game in close quarters, chopping away with spiteful knees and elbows. Much like “The Cobra”, he’s also not afraid to mix in takedowns to keep his opponent guessing.

This is a genuine pick ‘em fight, but I lean towards Janicic’s slight size advantage and edge in overall experience to see him to victory here. A finish would not surprise me, but the tentative pick is the Montenegrin by decision.

Prediction: Milos Janicic to win by decision
