Ludovit Klein: Is “Mr. Highlight” the same fighter after nine months out?

Ludovit Klein (24-5-1) has quietly become one of the most technically complete lightweights on the roster, going 8-3-1 in the promotion with his only recent setback a decision loss to top-level wrestler Mateusz Gamrot. Last October he beat Mateusz Rebecki in a bloodbath at UFC 321 to make Fight of the Night, but it came at a steep price. He broke his right ankle in the third round as Rebecki landed on it, survived minutes of ground and pound, and has his hand raised whilst sat on a stool. The southpaw is an economical counter striker with elite distance management, and a nasty kicking game. A pure joy to watch.

Tofiq Musayev: The most decorated man on the prelims is finally finding his feet

Tofiq Musayev (23-6) arrived in the UFC with a serious resume – RIZIN lightweight Grand Prix winner, and a former Sanda world champion. The UFC start was rough, Myktybek Orolbai Kimura’d him inside a round on his debut in Baku. He answered it in March, out-grappling Ignacio Bahamondes across the three rounds as a sizeable underdog, surviving a heavy second-round knockdown before taking over with takedowns and control. At 36, he still carries fight-changing power in his counter right hand.

Ludovit Klein vs Tofiq Musayev prediction

Both men have beaten Ignacio Bahamondes, Klein back in 2023, and Musayev earlier this year in March, and Musayev’s route was a lot more rocky. Musayev used his wrestling in that match up, but it may not work in this one. Klein’s defensive wrestling at 155 is better than Bahamondes’. Another problem for Tofiq is that Klein is a better striker than he is a grappler, so wherever this goes he’s in the worst half of the exchange.

On the feet Klein has the cleaner tools, the better timing, faster hands, and he picks his shots better. Musayev does have one edge though, and that’s the power, and it could matter too as it could make Klein hesitant and force him to fight at a slightly longer, safer range. Both fighters are great counter strikers, but Musayev can drop his volume a lot more against opponents who won’t rush him, and Klein won’t.

The crux of this matchup is on the ankle. Nine months from the injury and Klein says it’s fine. He had a grappling match in May, but grappling doesn’t tell you whether a man can throw kicks at full strength. Klein’s striking is well known for his kicking game, and if he can’t do that to his full potential that this fight can look a lot more even. He’d be a lock if it wasn’t for the uncertainty of his past injury.

Prediction: Ludovit Klein to win by decision
