Mateusz Rebecki: Can the Pole halt the first skid of his career?
Mateusz Rebecki (20-5) enters Belgrade on a three-fight slide, a run that reads worse on paper than it looked in the cage. Chris Duncan outworked him, Ludovit Klein edged a majority decision in a competitive fight, and Grant Dawson choked him out late in the fight at UFC 328 – all high level lightweights, and he had his moments in every one. Before that came a split decision win over Myktybek Orolbai in one of 2024’s craziest scraps. Rebecki is a pressure shootboxer who thrives in chaos, walking opponents down behind the overhand left before chaining body locks and double legs together.
Kyle Prepolec: “Killshot” still hunting his first UFC victory
Kyle Prepolec (18-10) is 0-4 inside the UFC, a record spread across two stints and all four fights on Canadian soil. Called up on short notice in 2019, he dropped decisions to Nordine Taleb and Austin Hubbard before disappearing for six years. Re-signed in 2025, he was submitted by BSD via arm-triangle, then took Drew Dober into a Fight of the Night war – leading on the scorecards until a low blow and a point deduction forced Dober to hunt the finish, which he found in round three. The 36-year-old is a boxer first, working behind straight shots with decent distance management.
Mateusz Rebecki vs Kyle Prepolec prediction
Rebecki’s loss streak is a matchmaking story more than a career decline. Duncan, Klein and Dawson are all high level fighters in the rankings or hovering around it, and crucially, all three are problems on the mat. That context flips here, Prepolec offers hardly any offensive wrestling and his takedown defence is loose, especially against chain wrestling. If Rebecki gets onto a body lock on the fence he should be dominant from there in a way he simply hasn’t been able to be for the past two years.
The takedown threat is what unlocks Rebecki’s striking. Prepolec wants to stick and move, but he won’t be able to reset properly when Rebecki’s giving him looks of a takedown, and the moment he starts anticipating the shot, Rebecki has his overhand there. Prepolec’s defence has always fallen apart the second he starts trading, and Rebecki will be open to do exactly that and stay in the pocket.
Prepolec has only been knocked out once, but he’s absorbing 5.69 significant strikes a minute in the UFC, and Rebecki hits hard. Rebecki to comeback from his loss streak and win is a lock here.
Prediction: Mateusz Rebecki to win by KO/TKO
