Alice Pereira: Can "The Golden Girl" produce another show stopping finish?
Alice Pereira (6-1) returns for her second bout of 2026 following a spectacular KO victory over Hailey Cowan that earned her a performance bonus last time out. The youngest female fighter in UFC history, “The Golden Girl” was bested by Montserrat Rendon in her debut, but looked excellent in her most recent showing, flattening Cowan with a vicious knee in the second round to put an end to proceedings. A flashy, unorthodox striker, Pereira was signed with a reputation as a KO artist, although it’s worth noting that Cowan was the first opponent of any real note that she managed to put away.
Darya Zheleznyakova: "The Iron Lady" aims to defend her spot in the division
2-2 since joining the promotion back in 2023, Darya Zheleznyakova (10-3) has alternated wins and losses throughout her time in the UFC. The Russian has earned victories over Montserrat Rendon and Melissa Mullins, while dropping results to Ailin Perez and Melissa Croden. A striker with a background in boxing and kickboxing, “Iron Lady” does her best work on the feet, a state of affairs evidenced by TKOs in half of her professional victories. However, she’s proven susceptible to being taken down by superior grapplers, giving up six takedowns in her two UFC defeats.
Will this fight go the distance?
Open poll and resultsAlice Pereira vs Darya Zheleznyakova prediction
This is a tricky one to call. Zheleznyakova has a win over Montserrat Rendon, the only woman to hand Pereira a loss in MMA to date, meaning that while MMA math is notoriously unreliable, it would indicate that the odds are in the Russian’s favour.
While she’s the favorite heading into this one, I’m not ready to declare Pereira the latest contender at bantamweight in the wake of a finish over Hailey Cowan. “All Hail” just retired in the wake of a four fight skid with three stoppage defeats; Pereira wasn’t the first or even the last woman to find a finish against her.
Zheleznyakova has typically struggled against opponents who leaned on the grappling to beat her, a mold of fighter that a striker like Pereira doesn’t fit. She has considerably more experience and puts up higher output numbers, while Pereira has yet to find a stoppage against a fighter who wasn’t put in the cage with her to get finished.
A Pereira win would not come as a major shock; she’s younger, hits harder, and has a slight reach advantage. However, until she proves that she’s capable of dispatching a better opponent than Hailey Cowan, I’m going to tentatively lean in the direction of the underdog. I think Pereira has better upside as a potential future talent, but I see the Russian crafting this one out.
Prediction: Darya Zheleznyakova to win by decision
