Montserrat Rendon: "Monster" aims to play spoiler against the division's hyped new prospect
Proudly representing Mexico at UFC Noche, 36 year old Monserrat Rendon (6-1) looks to rebound from coughing up her "0" to Darya Zheleznyakova in her most recent appearance in March 2024. Entering this contest off a the back of a layoff that has lasted more than a year, "Monster" is 1-1 in the UFC to date, scoring a win over Tamires Vidal prior to her sole career defeat last time out. While she's big for the division and possesses a well-rounded game, Rendon has also never finished a fight; all six of her victories have come by way of unanimous decision.
Alice Pereira: The "Golden Girl" primed to become the youngest female fighter in the promotion's history
Entering the UFC with a shiny undefeated record, Alice Pereira (5-0) will become the youngest woman in the promotion's history when she makes the walk to the cage on Saturday night. "Golden Girl" has finished all but one of her professional fights in ferocious fashion, an impressive run that included successive sub-20 second KOs. With dynamite in her fists and an exciting high pressure style, Pereira has the aura of a potential star in the making, but it's worth noting that she hasn't exactly beaten world beaters to date. Her five opponents to date boast a combined record of 15-16-1, with 12 of those wins credited to the then 12-8-1 Samara Santos.
Montserrat Rendon vs Alice Pereira prediction
At just 19 years of age, the "Golden Girl's" undefeated record and penchant for highlight reel finishes means that it's very easy to get excited about Pereira on paper. With that being said, she has yet to demonstrate that she's capable of taking out UFC level competition. Pereira's best win is over journeyman fighter Samara Santos in her most recent fight, her only bout to go the distance to date.
Rendon is not much of a threat to earn a stoppage, but she's still 1-1 in the UFC; hell, "Monster" was literally undefeated prior to her loss to Darya Zheleznyakova last time out. At 36, she's got a significant edge in higher level experience and won't be dealing with Octagon jitters or the higher expectations associated with hyped young prospects; she could well edge out a decision.
However, it's her lack of finishing potential that has me leaning against her here. Pereira is as green and raw as they come but she also looks to have some serious power for WMMA. The Brazilian is going to be aggressively hunting the finish from the very first bell, and Rendon simply does not look to be a fighter capable of causing enough damage to deter her for three rounds.
This one could conceivably go either way, but the pick is for Pereira to either score an early finish on the feet or bully "Monster" to a decision victory.
Prediction: Alice Pereira to win
