VICTORIA AZARENKA VS MIRRA ANDREEVA PREDICTION
Former world number one Victoria Azarenka conceded just one game to Nadia Podoroska on Tuesday to make a big statement of intent as she comes in with some serious form on her weakest surface.
The 34-year-old has enjoyed an excellent start to 2024 overall, with a semi-final exit to Elena Rybakina capping off a solid hardcourt swing before big wins en-route to the quarter-finals of the Rome Masters last time out, and she will be eager to make the most of that momentum in this first meeting with wunderkind Mirra Andreeva.
17-year-old Andreeva conceded just five games to Emina Bektas on Tuesday to get her campaign up and running, one year on from her remarkable run to the third round on her debut. The Russian went on to make the round of 16 at Wimbledon in her first professional campaign on grass, coming agonisingly close to more in a three-set exit to Madison Keys, and she reached the quarter-finals in Madrid earlier this month before defeat to eventual runner-up Aryna Sabalenka.
Azarenka has disliked facing rising teenage talents in the past but she brings the better recent form into this potential thriller. However, it is hard to ignore Andreeva’s hype, well-earned as it is, and the Roland-Garros crowds are likely to pull for her, much to Azarenka’s chagrin. Back Andreeva to win at least a set or take this first meeting between the two to see three before winner is found.
