THE PREDICTION
World number 94 Varvara Gracheva overcame Viktoriya Tomova in three sets on Wednesday to continue building back to her former level, setting a career-high of 39th back in January before a woeful start to 2024. The 23-year-old is a solid competitor across surfaces but she has impressed on clay with two third round exits at Roland-Garros in recent years to suggest the next few months will be key in repairing her ranking. World number 38 Yua Yuan looks the favourite here, though, after a statement straight-sets victory over clay specialist Mayar Sherif on Tuesday. The 25-year-old won her maiden WTA title at the Austin Open, where Gracheva was runner-up in 2023, last month before a brilliant run to the quarter-finals of Indian Wells, beating Varvara Gracheva en-route, to bring some excellent form into Rouen. Back the Chinese to win outright.
