TOMAS MARTIN ETCHEVERRY VS GIOVANNI MPETSHI PERRICARD PREDICTION
The Lyon crowd welcomed a new hero this time last season as 19-year-old Arthur Fils won his maiden ATP title amidst rapturous support and 20-year-old Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard will be eager to follow in his compatriot’s footsteps here.
The Frenchman will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 83rd after reaching his maiden final on tour, having played just five matches on tour before this week, and he did so by avenging his defeat to Alexander Bublik in the quarter-finals of Antwerp late last season to show huge promise.
World number 29 Tomas Martin Etcheverry is the solid favourite after some excellent results over fellow clay specialists Luciano Darderi, Dominik Koepfer and Thiago Seyboth Wild this week but the Argentine is also playing for his first title despite enjoying an excellent past 12 months on his favoured surface. The 24-year-old reached the quarter-finals of Roland-Garros last summer to prove his credentials but he will have to play the villain of this piece against a youngster who looks capable of enjoying the occasion.
Back Etcheverry to edge this first encounter with Mpetshi Perricard but backing the Frenchman to snatch a set could be the shrewdest way to avoid a result.
