THE PREDICTION

23-year-old Tomas Machac will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 51st after coming back from a set down to squeak past Andy Murray, who suffered a serious injury late on, in a post three-hour marathon on Sunday. The Czech has been touted as a clear top 30 talent for several seasons now but 2024 looks to be his year after upsetting world number six Andrey Rublev in the second round and making the third round in impressive fashion at the Australian Open. Fellow young up-and-comer Matteo Arnaldi, also 23, will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 35th after a hugely eye-catching run to the round of 16 in Miami, beating Arthur Fils, Alexander Bublik and Denis Shapovalov without dropping a set. Three sets seem likelier than two in this first tour-level meeting between the them so consider backing Arnaldi to earn at least one of them given his run so far, with Machac spending almost two hours longer on court than his opponent this fortnight.
