The Italian set a career-high WTA world ranking of 14th after an incredible run to the Dubai Masters crown last month, coming back from a set down to beat fellow surprise finalist Anna Kalinskaya, and whilst she was handed a spot of luck by Elena Rybakina’s withdrawal she still fully earned her title with results over Beatriz Haddad-Maia, Leylah Fernandez, Sorana Cirstea and Maria Sakkari. World number 46 Tatjana Maria beat Arantxa Rus in straight sets on Wednesday to maintain her steady course on tour but the veteran lost to Paolini in straight sets at the Australian Open in January and she should find an even tougher version of the gutsy Italian here.
