THE PREDICTION

29-year-old Lin Zhu came into the Hua Hin Open at a career-high WTA world ranking of 54th after an incredible run to the round of 16 at the Australian Open was eventually ended by Victoria Azarenka. The Chinese will break her ranking once again after reaching the quarter-finals here, winning her last four sets in a row since an early deficit in the first round on Monday. Former world number 22 Tamara Zidansek grabbed the shock of the tournament so far, though, by ousting rising star Linda Fruhvirtova in three sets on Wednesday. The Slovenian looks ready to move back inside the top 100 and beyond ahead of the clay season, where she made her name with a run to the semi-finals of Roland-Garros two years ago, and this first meeting between the two is a difficult call. Current form suggests Lin Zhu can edge through to the semi-finals but back the Chinese to earn at least a set as the likelier of two capable victors.
