THE PREDICTION
World number 29 Tallon Griekspoor came back from a set down to oust fourth seed Hubert Hurkacz in front of a raucous home support here in Rotterdam, doing so in their typical fashion via three tiebreaks. The 27-year-old also came back from a set down to oust Lorenzo Musetti on Monday and if he can avoid fatigue he looks the reasonable favourite to make the last four with the support of a partisan crowd, having used that energy to win his second ATP title last summer on home grass at ‘s-Hertogenbosch. World number 55 Emil Ruusuvuori should not be underestimated after starting 2024 off with a run to his maiden tour final at the Hong Kong Open, where he finished runner-up to Andrey Rublev, and ousting Marseille Open champion Ugo Humbert in three sets in the first round here on Wednesday. The Finn is capable of much better tennis than his current deflated ranking suggests, particularly in these conditions, but a 0-3 deficit to Griekspoor, without yet taking a set, suggests the Dutchman can delight fans once again. Consider adding at least a tiebreak for good measure.
TIP: TALLON GRIEKSPOOR TO WIN (AND OVER 0.5 TIEBREAKS)
